Windows XP shuts down

I am having a problem with my HP 750c shuting down while
in use. Although the on/off switch remains illuminated, I
have to turn off the power to restart.Holding the on/off
button in does nothing. I have followed the instructions
from HP regarding "Going into/out-of stanby/hibernation.
The problem does not appear when the computer is idle.I am
able to go into standby with no problems coming out of
standby.

There is an error notice in the event log:

Event ID 615: IPSec Services: IPSec Services failed to
initialize IKE module....

Any suggestions?

Is the shutdown random or does it always happen when you do "x". If the
latter, then you may be having software problems and the usual
troubleshooting applies: scan with av, remove spyware, do disk cleanup,
etc. If the shutdown is random, then the cause is probably hardware,
with overheating or bad RAM being the most likely culprits. Here is
some generic troubleshooting for hardware:

1) open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test
the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run
for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the mftr.; 4) test the motherboard. If you can't do this testing
yourself, take the machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a
CompUSA or Best Buy type of store).
