I have a new motherboard-2600 Athlon XP (333 Mhz) with 512
MB pc2700 DDR ram, new hard disk-80GB. Everything looks
fine, until I started installing win xp. It stops
responding right after creating or deleting partitioning
(time elapsed is approx 2 min). I tried a lot of times and
here is the messages I've seen which might be helpful:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and it says something about to try
disabling caching or shadowing.

The other one I've seen is
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and at the bottom of the page
it says: Tech info:
***STOP: 0X00000050 (0XFFFFFFF8,
0X00000000,0X808456AF,0X00000000) - I don't know what this
means but I thought it could be helpful to you guys.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help
Alan

Did you run the Windows XP Compatibility Check before starting? On
custom-built systems, this will tell you if there is a piece of hardware
that might cause problems. Obviously, boot from the Windows XP CD, and
you'll be able to work through the process.

a friend of mine has a newer HP with xp on it and she was getting same thing after a few rounds with HP and them sending her new disk's i found the problem with a simple google search, she had a bad memory stick (2 @ 128) i removed one stick at a time and tried to run the machine with one stick and verified one was bad and as far as i know she's still running it on one stick lol

I just re-partitioned the hard drive (into 2 partitions)
on a new laptop and was getting
the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" error when attempting to
download any Windows updates. I had setup the 2nd
partition with a different cluster size than had been
originally established on the entire drive as one
partition. For some reason, the downloads were being saved
on the 2nd partition (in folder WUTEMP), and during the
installation process I would get the above error on a blue
screen full of other messages, including "try
disabling caching or shadowing." I finally solved the
problem by re-sizing the clusters on the 2nd partition to
correspond with the original cluster size (as I had
retained on the 1st partition) and was finally able to
download & install all the (20+) Windows updates. Don't
know what you're using for partitioning, but I'm using
Partition Magic 8.0.
