Windows XP Setup

My XP Pro became unstable after installing software for a new HD and a
reboot. During my recovery I accidently installed a second copy (althought
possibly not complete) of XP pro onto my HD. Now during boot it asks me to
choose one. I want to get rid of the 2nd copy with little effort and w/o
compromissing my other data. Any ideas?

I have backed up all data I want incase things go SOUTH...lol.

Take a look at #20 on this web site.

I have two installations of XP on the same partition.

It's possible that if the second installation did not complete,
you'll only need to edit the BOOT.ini file.

How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289022

A system with a single installation of Windows XP Professional
on the first partition of the primary hard drive should look
like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows
XP Professional Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Good luck
