Windows XP setup boot disk

I am working on an IBM Aptiva 2171585.
Here's the situation.
I have two primary partitions running on my hard drive.
One, my original, is running Windows 98, while I am trying
to install Windows XP on the other one. My problem is
once I make my new partition active and try to reboot the
computer using the Windows XP CD, my BIOS doesn't
recognize my CD-ROM drive (G: or H:) and will not boot
from the CD. (I have changed the settings on my BIOS to
boot from CD-ROM). All I get is a C:\> prompt. I don't
know if there is a problem with the CD or if my computer
won't boot a CD.
So then I downloaded Windows XP setup boot disk onto a
floppy disk so I could run it from my A: drive. Since the
file size is so large it takes 6 floppies. I rebooted the
computer to run from the floppies, but it only makes it
through the first 3 disks. On the 4th disk it gives me
the message "ini910.sys is corrupt" and it shuts down the
program. I've tried downloading it from different
computers, and I've even tried replaceing the "corrupted"
files with ones from the CD-ROM, and still been
unsuccessful. Sorry for the long message but I'm at the
end of my rope. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks.

Jess,
have u tried upgrading your system's firmware? on older
machines you did get a cdrom boot-up option, but it
usually worked only after a firmware upgrade.
