Windows XP running extremely slow

My windows XP laptop is running extremely slow... as in
hours to boot up, and minutes to respond to a mouse
click. The only error message is "can not load
powrprof.dll. The last thing I had done was load quicken
2005, but I have restored back to the point before that
install and it still runs slow.

I have done chkdisk, and virus scan with no luck. I have
a Toshiba M15-S405 laptop.

Any ideas?

Do some clean boot troubleshooting disabling start up components until
you find the one(s) causing trouble:
