Fred

When I try to shutdown windows xp professional, the
computer goes thru the normal procedures, the instead of
turning off, it reboots and starts up again. I'm not
using Roxio or In CD ???

Any suggestions help

Guess what, I just started having the same problem.
Believe it was caused by automatic upgrade around 9/7/03.
Also lose my mouse settings everytime I restart or shut
down (using the power switch on back of machine!)
I say blame the upgrade. I do not think we are alone. We
trusted the upgrade, and it had a few bugs. I hope MS can
figure this out. I sent them a "suggestion for
improvement."

REBOOT INSTEAD OF SHUTDOWN
Most Win XP shutdown problems reported thus far have been
that it reboots when shutdown is attempted. This may be a
global symptom emerging from several distinct causes,
because, by default, XP executes an automatic restart in
the event of a system failure. Therefore, more or less
anything compromising the operating system during the
shutdown process could force this reboot.
