Hi, all

A compaq laptop. WinXP Pro restart automatically at the progress bar
when booting. All the options in F8 menu do not work.

What's the problem? Is there any solutions besides reinstall the system?

Thanks!

Hi,

Is SP2 installed? If so, one of the options at the boot menu should be to
disable the automatic restart on system failure. This should produce a blue
screen that may tell us what is wrong.

Alternately, I'd try running chkdsk c: /r from athe recovery console. This
can be done by booting the WinXP CD and pressing 'r' when first prompted, or
if you do not have one (not uncommon with Compaq's), then you can use the
boot floppy set:

Hi ala,

I also faced same problem.

I have resolved this by following steps:
1. Boot from Win XP CD (any will work SP1 or SP2)
2. Go to Recovery Console (I think u know how to)
3. On Recovery Console Prompt, type "chkdsk /R"
4. After completion of CHKDSK work, restart the laptop. And, boot
normally.
5. Login to Windows. And, run "SFC /SCANNOW" from Start -> Run.

This is the common solution which I use in my company. And, every time
I was the winner against the problem.

All the Best!!!!
