Windows XP rebooting at startup

I have XP Professional SP2 on my computer, and it has started to
reboot at startup. Right after the boot screen has finished to
load, I notice my hard disk going in standby and the system reboots.
I've tried to boot in Safe Mode, Debug Mode and other options, but none
of them worked.
This problem has started occurring about 2 months ago, so I had to
use my second installation of Windows XP sp1 on the second partition.

How can I solve this problem?

Black startup screen is briefly displayed and your computer restarts
repeatedly when you try to start Windows XP

After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
2005, your computer restarts continuously

Haal. Why are you multi posting?

How can you possibly keep up with locating all the OPs responses?

You need to learn how to cross post!!

It is under Advanced option at bottom of screen when creating your OP.
maybe google for cross post help.

Ok I followed the instructions and disabled the AutoReboot key in the
registry. Nothing, the hard disk was put on standby and the pc restarted
as before.
However, I accidentally discovered two files corrupted, msvcrt.dll and
msvcrt40.dll which I have restored from c:\windows\system32\dllcache.
Now the system boots and appears to work normally except that the
hard disk sometimes "clicks", much like when it is returning from standby.
This happens expecially when I run some programs like notepad and
a few others.
The noisy "click" seems to happen only when the hard disk is making
the reading/writing work.

Any idea?

P.S. Sorry for the multipost.

Make sure you back up all important data now. Then download a drive
diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web site. This will
create a bootable floppy or CD. Boot from that and run the diagnostics
on the drive.
