When installing Windows XP Pro if you establish a Password and then your
client forgets their password and trys entering the PW more then 3 times XP
Pro thinks you are an intruder and kicks you out. Is the only way to recover
from this situation the reloading (re-installation) of XP or if you finally
find out what the password is, is there a way of getting back into the system
and re-entering the correct password. I hope this is clear for anyone looking
?
Thanks for your help.

I believe another admin user will be able to "remove" the password. This
would be in Control Panel / Users... Can't verify as I've only got the one
account on this machine, or if it will work with all security or permission
settings.

If there's one user aka 'Bob' (who has forgotten their password), but
there's still an administrator user - boot into safe mode by pressing F8
just before you would normally see the Windows screen when turning on your
machine. You'll then see the admin user and be able to login with that
password.

FYI, XP Pro can login with the Administrator account at the Welcome Screem"
by Ctrl+Alt+Del x 2. With Home this must be gained by Safe Mode.

Login with an account that has Administrative access. Then reset the user's
password. Also, you may have to wait 15 minutes or whatever the Account
Lockout Reset is set at before attempting to Login with the User that has
failed to Login within 3 attempts..

You can change Account Lockout Policies options, go to Control
Panel>Administrative Tools>Local Security Policy>Account Lockout Policy.

Just wait 15 minutes, and then try again. (Unless you've change the
default time before the system "unlocks" itself.)
