Windows XP Professional - Fatal error

Attempting to install Windows XP Pro, on IBM Aptiva
machine, checked for machine compatibility, got flag
needed "software" downloaded and installed, XP
installation started then got Fatal error messages (1)
failed to install product catalog, (2.) problem
requesting ole dll C:\windows\system32\initpki.dll, (3.)
signature for XP Upgrade Invalid, error 80096001. Now
machine is in an enless loop, cannot uninstall in safe
mode (last good configuration), cannot access Control
Panel for Add/Remove. Quandry, don't know how to proceed,
help is appreciated, TKS

Install the xp cd,then boot from cd,you can either go
to recovery,use the utilities to chk system and hd,such
as typing:CHKDSK C: /F or type:HELP For all cmds.Or
try letting xp install,what software did you install,
xp does all that,if the hd is corrupt,in repair type:
FORMAT C:/FS:ntfs This should clean it up for xp instal.
