Windows xp problems

Can anyone please help me!! I recently installed windows
xp professional upgrade onto my home computer. I
previously was on windows mellinium. Now, some of my
programs will not run, ie: adaptec direct cd copying
program, and aol is running funny--not playing sounds or
media. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this??? Is
my computer just not compatable with xp? please, anyone,
I'm desparate!!!! my e-mail is (e-mail address removed).
 
I ran into a similar problem on a friends computer, after
he downloaded a Windows Critical Update. I reinstalled
Service Pack 1, and it seems to have fixed all of his
issues.

Adaptec Direct CD older versions [you might have version 4.x something] are not compatible with Windows XP. XP requires v5.1 [5.0 atleast]. As to the AOL sounds issue, it may be the sound card drivers. Install the audio card drivers for Windows XP.
