Windows Xp problem

My system keeps telling me (via the Auto Update feature) that I have updates
to install.... but it is always the same thing and it always fails
installation. This is the windows software i am using:

Windows Xp Professional
Version 2002
Service pack 2

Everytime i tell it to install the update it fails with this message:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1
(KB886903)...failed!

Can someone please help mw with this? Does this affect my PC in any way?

Thanks in advance

Do you have anything "running" that is Using .NET? Ghost, for instance? you
may need to turn it off prior to the Update install.

CC,

Just for the sake of being simple, do you have another user profile
that you can/need to DL this from. If not can you create one and try to
DL the update. In the user profile you are using, whatever variables
might be in question, system settings or processes running should be
nil comparatively. You can always create a new user account just for
the purpose.
Also, did you look up to see the MS reference listed for anymore
information, or did you just copy it and ask here?
This is not a direct answer for your normal profile use, but if it
works with a fresh profile/settings, then maybe something is stopping
it.
On the other hand...... Maybe MS doesn't want you to DL it ;)
I may have people disagree with me on this, but I find auto-update a
hassle. SP2 on XP and (if you like) an occasional check on the update
website should keep you running problem free.
If you do go to the MS update site, it has a habit of turning auto back
on without you knowing... It's like mild malware....
If it means that much to you, go here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/

Just my two cents
