windows xp pro w sp2 have to keep manually identifying 200GB SATA drive HELP!!

hi i just bought a 200GB seagate serial ATA SATA drive, and i am
having a problem. heres my specs...

CHAINTECH SKT600 MB bios (newest avail at 7/15/2004) (newest bios
website has)
ATHLON XP2600+ processor
256MB ram
SCSI 2940UW with 10K cheetah 9.1GB main boot drive
windows XP pro with SP2 installed

when i turn on my computer and the 200GB drive is connected, the MC
bios sees the drive, but when windows gets ready to load it hangs,
before anything else comes on the screen after bios screens show up.
it just hangs....

so if i remove the 200GB drive it boots up just fine to the regular
win xp pro sp2 (yes boot priority is set to scsi drive boot first) ok
after win xp starts normally, i can connect the 200GB drive, windows
will not recognize it, i have to manually identify it every time, then
it works fine for the duration the pc is turned on. why wont win xp
sp2 see this drive upon boot and allow it to be connected? any help
would be great, thanks :)
