Windows XP Pro Taskbar - Disappearing Open Program Buttons

Although the program icons in the quicklaunch area work fine, when programs
are opened or minimized, no open-program icons/buttons are displayed in the
taskbar/quicklaunch area. They seem to disappear behind the taskbar and do
not display. I therefore cannot navigate between open programs from the
taskbar area. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you
