Windows XP Pro Soft Off

Donald

After loading several computers with XP Pro, using a
corperate number, the soft off (Windows says "It is OK to
shut down your Computer") no longer works on some of
them. These are PIIIs and PIVs. But it does not do it on
all of them. I am puzzled and cannot find any info on
this subject. HELP!

A probable cause is that the installation found the BIOS does not
adequately support the 'Advanced Configuration & Power Interface'
(ACPI). It then installs the older APM, but leaves it disabled. Go to
Control Panel - Power Options, and if there is an APM page, check
'Enable APM' on it.
