Windows XP Pro : recycle bin

Hi all,
When I delete an item, it does not show up in the recycle
bin; although the recycle bin file size grows as I delete
items. I am running XP Pro. It was installed over an oem
Windows ME version. I used the NTSC option when I
installed Win. XP Pro. The knowledge base offers a
solution, but it is for Win. 2000 or NT.. Please help if
you can.
