windows xp pro problems

i'm currently experiencing a problem when i try to open
up my antivirus software, it just closes almost as soon
as it opens, i have tried numerous different programs and
they all do the same. Also if i try to install certain
things the setup program closes too and when i run
regedit that window shuts too. i ahve tried repairing
windows with a repair install but to no avail. all
problems cured in safe mode tho.

also when i press ctrl alt + del my task manager appears
but the top part of it has disappeared so i cant access
my processes tab or anythin else come to it.

any ideas???

You have a virus, maybe many.

If you can get to Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup uncheck anything unfamiliar and
delete the same from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
