windows xp pro problems

Latley ive been noticing some lagging in the windows xp
pro operationg system. Ive checked for viruses and found
nothing. Any ideas on how to fix this lagginess?

Another thing is how do I disable programs from starting
up when windows loads?

Lagging (slow operating) could be many things. A place to start, unlessa
MS.MVP comes along soon, is -

As for programmes loading at start, go to Start/Run and typ msconfig. Open
the "Startup" tab and uncheck anything you don't want. You will be asked to
restart you computer.
