Windows XP Pro halt during boot up if On Chip USB is enabled in CMOS

Can anyone please give me some advice on how to fix the
below problem?

If I have the OnChip USB and "assign IRQ for USB" enabled
in CMOS setup, Windows XP Pro halts during boot up. If I
choose Safe mode it boots successfully and I can use my
USB device in Safe mode.

BTW, I install Red Had 9 with the Onchip USB enabled on
this computer, it successfully boots.

My computer mainboard is Chaintech CT-6ATA2, Pentium III
550 MHz, with Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG.

How can I have Windows XP boot with OnChip USB enable.

Thanks,
Francis

Hi,

I would advise you to update the mobo BIOS and disable
the 'assign IRQ for USB' in BIOS, let win XP assign the
IRQ during installation of XP.

If you want to assign the IRQ by yourselves, you need to
change the ACPI PC to standard PC (by pressing the F5 key
when you prompted to press F6 key)during installation of
XP.

Now, update the BIOS, backup your important data files
and clean install XP again.

.
IRQ conflict, 2 devices sharing one resource causes
confict & system to stop responding. Go to :
Administrative Tools - Device Manager- find device listed -
right clik the icon - Properties - Device Status
