Windows XP Pro crashes on clean install

Hi all
My PC crashed whilst using Windows Media Player 10. Following this it would
always get stuck on the Windows XP splash screen as it started up. Decided to
format and reinstall. Everything goes fine with the format but at different
stages during the actual installation the PC hangs and I have to reset. I've
done this several times with both my HDs and the same thing happens.
Sometimes it hangs shortly after the format and the most its lasted is when
it reaches the point where its 'Installing Devices' and there's 35mins to the
end of installation.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Make sure you only have one hd connected to a IDE cable when installing,
try cleaning the xp cd before you install.

HI Andrew

Thanks for your reply.
I have 2 S-ATA HDs but like you recommended I only connected 1 at a time via
the S-ATA cable to the MB. The CD was the first thing I cleaned!
Hmmm...any more ideas?

Thanks

Don't discount the possibility of a hardware fault. Check and reseat all
internal connectors (especially memory) for a start.

Be very careful following Andrew E's advice, he really likes to suggest
solutions that cause complete data loss and he will not convey that warning
with his suggestion.
