IF I install XP Pro on a HD with non MS files like ones in
Lotus Notes, will they be deleted> Both XP and 2K use NTFS
as a file system but wanted to know.

Windows XP formats the partition where its gonna be
installed always. I dont know if you have the lotus-stuff
on a separate partition, because if you do then they will
remain. If you only have one partition..then they will get
deleted during the format.

Xp only formats if you tell it to do a clean install. If you tell it to do a
upgrade install then the files would remain.

WinXP does NOT always format the partition it's installed to. You can
install it and have it keep the current file system intact (if it's one
XP is compatable with)

But of course you will be smart and back up all your data first, just
like you already back up on a regular basis. Right?

Not sure if your talking to me or not, but yes I backup every night using
removable ide drives. One drive is always in a fire proof safe.
