Windows XP on laptop suddenly shutting down (crashing).

Hi all!

I've suddenly started having a problem with XP Pro on my ACER laptop.

The computer suddenly turns off - when I reload it I get the disc check
routing kick in - sometimes there are some 'truncated file' messages -
sometimes not.

I've checked for viruses and full 'disc check' with no problems.

I would say that there is no predictability to this happening - at least
that's what I thought - but it happens 'solid as a rock' when I try to
defragment my C drive.

It also seems to happen a lot when viewing vids on youtube!

Any ideas?

Tony

Before I would check the software, I would check for over-heating.
Make sure that all the air access ports are open and that the fan is operational.
You might also use a small strip of wood to elevate the back of the computer and allow air
circulation under the computer.
Laptops are more likely to have cooling problems than desktops.
Your problems sound more like over-heating symptoms.

Please post a complete copy of the Stop Error Report.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the
My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Also please provide copies of all Error Reports appearing in Event
Viewer about the time the error occurs.

Hope this helps.
