windows xp / nt

hi i have 2 pc's and i have installed windows xp on
both of them, recently i have tried on both machines to
install the same programs and both systems tell me it is
unable to do this as i am running windows nt ... could
anyone please give me some advice as to what windows nt
is and how i can rectify this problem and get my windows
xp back again many thanks.

Sounds like these applications were meant for earlier/consumer versions of
Windows. Windows XP is based on the NT platform, as is Windows 2000.

Windows XP is an offshot of Windows NT 4.0 and some
applications will not run in this environment because of
XP's (NT's) security. It is trying to configure your
system that makes the OS unhappy, so it will not allow the
install.
