Idownload files from ms for windows xp it will not update
auto update don't update either saying files are missing

If possible could you please provide the exact error message you are getting from Windows Update. If the error message contains the name of any missing files, then someone may be able to help you.

Have a look in the Windows Update.log file, which you can find in your Windows folder. Search that file for any occurrences of 'fail' - without the quotes. If you find any 'fail' have a look here:
