Have you found a solution as I have the same problem started this week after
an XP update but I cant go back on a system restore as IT locks up.

Did you ever get an answer to your query, because I have that problem some
times. Eventually I closed the lid of my laptop, then the next day I
disconnected the battery then turned the laptop back on and it worked.
