Windows XP Not Readable

Recently I booted up and cannot read anything on windows
xp home edition. Please help. I can copy what little I
can see and if I load on another machine files are not
corrupt. System Save D was full." Even the sign on
screen is in another language(character mode).
 
I had the same problem yesterday. I managed to use System
Restore to recover to an earlier configuration. However
the problem has occured again today and this time there
are no system restore points available.

It may be a virus that has corrupted a system file but
Nortons AV software does not report any viruses.

Let me know if you get a fix to this problem. The only
other option seems to be System Recovery.
