I have a router and my main PC is connected to the internet ok. My other PC
is connected to the router but will not get a new IP address. Local Area
Connection says Limited or No activity. Talked with cable provider tech and
he said that there was a bug in XP that need to be fixed. Does anyone know
what this problem is??

Is this a new set up, or is this one that you have had for a while? It
sounds more to me like your router does not have DHCP enabled. Is your main
pc getting it's address through DHCP, or is it static? Have you tried a
different cable on the second pc, or is it connecting wireless? Any further
information you could provide would help get a quicker solution, such as,
what type router? How is everything hooked together (wired, wireless). If
DHCP is on the router, and the main pc is getting it's address from the
router, then you could try plugging the second computer into the same slot in
router as main pc to eliminate a problem with the port on the router. Just
some ideas. If none of this helps, please give a little more info and we'll
see what else we can help with. I don't know what patch cable company would
be talking about.

Oh, maybe something here.. maybe not.

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

You can also try this software download from a working machine:
