Windows XP Netgear Update

hello all,

I downloaded the Windows XP Netgear Update and it knocked out the Netgear
Ultility Configuration (the little tv in the system tray). Now I can't
configure the wireless network using Netgear.

Luckily, I was able to get back to the internet through a ethernet cable
patch. I reinstalled the wireless card and the latest driver. Now I am able
to get back on through the wireless network, but still no Netgear
Configuration Utility. I can only configure the network using Windows.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

I don't advise installing driver updates from Windows Update unless
you're having trouble with a device. The Microsoft drivers sometimes
don't have features that the manufacturer's drivers do.

Two possible fixes:

1. In Device Manager, double-click the Netgear wireless adapter, click
Driver, and click Roll Back Driver.

2. Use System Restore to go back to a time before you installed the
Netgear update.

John,

This is what is called eXPerience. ;-)

Never download vendor specific drivers from Microsoft. If the vendor has
anything you need, you will find it on their website. If you run Windows
Update, and it tells you there's a driver update available from the vendor, go
to the vendor's website and get what's available.

Get the current Netgear driver from <http://kbserver.netgear.com/main.asp>, not
from Microsoft.

hi guys,

thanks a bunch. I went back to netgear.com and downloaded the latest
driver. Then, I uninstall the old software, and reinstalled the it. Now it
works perfectly and I use the Netgear Utility to configure the card.

thanks again.
