Windows XP missing or corrupt file?

M

Marty

I'm getting no place with the people from Dell. When I
turn on my PC I'm getting an error message stating that
windows could not run because of a missing or corrupt
file. I am not near my PC but I think the file reads ?
windows\system32\.......

I tried reinstalling the operating cd but it stalls after
the system updates most of the files. Does anyone know of
a step by step solution without me losing everything on my
hard drive? I am using Windows XP.
