I am in the process of buying a new laptop. I mainly will be using it for
school and my dh for work (rarely). With media.....can you still network? I'd
like to get media if I can , but mainly am worried about networking to my
home computer and also internet access. Can someone help?

Hello there.

Windows XP Media Center Edition is basically Windows XP Professional, but
with the Media Center software installed. It can do everything that XP Pro
can, as well as all the added functionality that Media Center adds.

So in short, yes, you can join a network with XP Media Center Edition.

I hope this answers your question.

But you can only join a domain at the time of installation.

Ah yes, I can see how you might think that the media center edition would
not have internet access.

Such a small and useless thing as the internet is often overlooked by large
companies just trying to make a buck.

And who wants to network the thing? Those NICs built int the Media center
laptops you are looking at probably have absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

Not entirely. MCE cannot join a domain.
