Windows XP - Log Files to help diagnose problem

Is there a lof file which could tell me the last thing that happened.

If I leave my fully up to date Windows (inc SP2) for any period of time on
my Notebook - it hangs and I have to reboot. I would like to know what the
last action was that caused the hang - so I can handle the problem.

Any ideas appreciated
