Windows XP locking up

I have a problem with windows XP. When I run a program
like windows media player it sometimes locks up. It says
program not responding I hit end Now. It will never close
It keeps taking me in loops to end it The hourglass stays
there forever. Useing task manager to close it it won't
do it. I have to reset to restart my computer. Please help

To me it looks like a service conflict.

Don't know which serive your running. But if you haven't
tried re-installing the Win Media player i would try that
and then i woudl check whaqt services is running when you
boot up. Might be a pesky virus you never know.
