windows XP local admin password

Is there a way to recover a windows XP local admin password. I
don’t want to reset it, I want to recover it.

The machine has a local account with admin rights, so I can into the
machine. But I want to get the admin password. Thanks

Resetting is easy, of course. Recovering is another story. The only way
I know of to *recover* the password is to try a password cracking
program. Brutus or John the Ripper comes to mind, and also LC5 by
@stake:

Thanks for the reply, I figured as much. And those things only about
1% of the time from my research. If you put in a none common word as a
password for example 8*yih68 you can forget about it. Thanks
