I have a situation I am trying to figure out with XP por
and maybe someone can help me? In XP pro I have a couple
of computers that are not on a domain. I go in and set up
several user accounts on the machine and then XP pro lets
me create on account as a roaming profile. The account
that I use the profile from lets me log in and then I
cannot change my background image but the task bar changes
from XP style to classic style and back or it is half and
half. Also on the desktop there is a folder that is
created instead of a my documents folder, there is a
folder labeled as the primary account, or the account that
host's the profile. When I go into this file there is a
file with nothing in it that is a text file that was
automatically created by xp. When I go into the folder or
anywhere else and try to right click and make a new file
in this folder I only have permissions to create a folder
and create a shortcut in the folder. When I check the
permissions on the file it has that I am the
creator/owner. If I try to make changes to the file I get
an error message saying that I do not have the correct
permissions. If I log off and go back to the primary
(master) account and try to go into the "My Documents and
Settings" in the c: drive I can get into the profile
folder of the master user and I can see the exact file
that was on the roaming profiled account. I check the
properties of the file which should show the secondary
account to be the owner as to which it showed in the
secondary account. The file shows it now belongs to the
master account. I go into the file and make changes to the
file and then try and save it and then it says I do not
have permissions. I go check the permissions and then
again it says I am the creator/owner. If this is true I
should be able to get change the file. I try to delete the
file from that folder and then it lets me delete it with
out any problems. I then log out and go back to the
primary account and then look to see if the file is still
in the same folder. It is there and then says that it is
owned and created by master account again. I make another
change to the file adn then save it and go back to the
secondary account adn then it shows the file and then once
again my secondary account is creator/owner. I log out and
go to the primary account(master) and check the
permissions on the secondary user and when I go to the
advanced settings in the user manager the title bar of the
advanced window says something like: Advanced Properties
for "%s's" account. Why has the system now changed the
user name account settings from the username John_Smith to
the username %s. Why can you not create a file when you
are using a roaming profile and why can you not have a
bcakground on the account? Also when you change the
background the image stays the same however when you log
off the task bar changes color and the background that I
selected to have on the system flashes on the screen and
then it logs off. Is there any one anywhere that can point
me to an answer that would explain this and how to fix it.
