I have windows xp on my pc and it works just fine. I just got a lap top that
has an older version of windows xp so i tried to update it. when i put the cd
for installation it asked me for the key product code. i put the code that
came with the cd and it worked just fine. the problem was when i tried to
register it, i was asked for a new key product code. i tried entering the
same key code but it told me that it was not a valid code. what can i do?
where do i get the new key product code?

unfortunately, if the laptop
had an older version of windows
and you upgraded with
someone else's cd, then
you don't have any options,
other than to run to the store
and buy a copy of windows.

you could try to uninstall that
the windows and hope that
the laptop reverts to the
old version, but it is likely
you will need to old cd to
reinstall some of the old
system files that were wiped
away by the newer cd..

you might want to go to
the homesite for the laptop
and see what all is available
for it. perhaps, the harddrive
has a partition with a backup
that you can access and restore
the machine.
