Windows XP is not displaying my new HD

Hi all,

Bios is picking up my new 160gb HD but Windows XP is not displaying it in
Explorer, Computer Management -> Disk Management or Device Manager->Disk
Drives.

I used a Win 98 boot disk and FDISK to format the HD into Fat32 but it only
detected 65GB of the total. This is no good to me.

How do I get WinXP to pick up my HD so I can then format it into NTFS from
within WinXP?

I've made some progress. I did "Add Hardware" and selected the new HD from a
list. It now appears under Device Manager->Disk Drives. However it is still
not appearing under Computer Management->Disk Management or Explorer. Any
help will be much appreciated.

You still have to partition and format the drive.

While you can do that from XP, it wont do a single FAT32
partition for the entire drive, wont create one bigger than
32GB. It will however use one you create using something else.

You can use that older dos fdisk, just tell it to format
the entire drive FAT32 and it will format the whole
drive and the full size will show up in XP fine.

If you want more than one FAT32 partition bigger than 32GB
on the drive, just get the latest fdisk from microsoft. That fixes
that problem of showing just the size over 64GB which is just
a bug. No need to bother if you just want one partition tho,
the old version will do that fine, just reporting the size wrong.;
