Windows XP is not displaying my new hard drive

Hi all,

Bios is picking up my new 160gb HD but Windows XP is not displaying it in
Explorer or Computer Management -> Disk Management. Initially it wasn't
displaying it under Device Manager->Disk Drives either but I did a "Add
Hardware" and selected my new HD from a list. Under Properties for this hard
drive everything appears to be ok.

How do I get WinXP to display this new HD?

You need to partition and format the drive ... and assign it a drive letter.
Provided you have installed it correctly.... Right click on My Computer and
select Manage. On the following screen, click on Disk Management... it
should appear on the right hand side of the screen from where you can do all
of the above tasks.

Hi, Rats.

In addition to what Cari said, you may need to update your BIOS to handle
48-bit addressing for drives larger than about 137 GB, what Maxtor calls
"Big Drives". I don't have one myself, but I read a couple of articles over
a year ago that explain the situation. You can find these (and over 6,000
