Windows XP Internet Information Services (IIS)

Hello,

Is Internet Information Services installed by default on Win XP Pro?
Mine is installed, but I do not remember if i had to add it on.

Also, what kind of applications depend on IIS?

I wasn't sure if Remote Desktop depends on IIS. I know that Remote
Desktop Web Connection requires it, but i don't know if the normal
Remote Desktop needs it.

Basically, I'm wondering if I need IIS on my machine at all... and I
just wanted to make sure i am not going to mess anything up if i
remove it.

IIS is included in XP Pro, but not installed by default. IIS is a web/ftp
server, so you can host a web/ftp site with it. It also allows for MS
Sharepoint applications to run.

If you are not going to be running a web site or hosting any collaboration
services from the machine, you can remove it using the Add/Remove Windows
Components. You can always add it back later if you want to.

No IIS is not installed by default. I don't have mine installed at all.
However, if i install Microsoft Visual Studio it requests both IIs and
frontpage extensions as well as .net framework.

and, to answer your question about Remote Desktop, I believe that only
requires Terminal Services, not IIS, for normal usage.
