Windows XP installed over top of Windows NT

David G.

If I install a full version of Windows XP will it
completely erase the hard drive of all the NT that is on
it?

I inherited a computer and want to overwrite NT with XP
but I don't want to purchase XP until I am sure that it
can be done.

I think that if I boot up the computer from the cd drive
and run the install from there it should overwrite the NT.

Am I right?

You should have a choice to add an operation system or
write over the existing, which shall reformat the drive
and erase all on it. Two operating system are not
suggested but can be done- there is an article about it
on MS some where. When you boot from the CD it will ask
you these questions.
Be sure to look over all your data files such as excel,
word pictures , music etc very carefully to make sure you
back them up

Re formating and writing over is the most healthy for
your puter
