I have SEVERE problems in stalling windows xp (both home and PRO
versions SP! and non SP)

I am using back up copies as both of my originals cd's are badly
scratched and cant be read properly

I have the following problems

Part one install… when the windows files from the cd are being
copied over to the hard drive that are needed for stage 2 of the
windows xp install

The file xxx.xxx was not copied over correctly

The file that setup has placed on your hard drive is not a valid
windows xp system image if you are installing from a cd… there
may be a problem with thw windows xp cd

To retry press enter (which is what I ALLWAYS do)

If you continue to receive this message, contact your windows xp
supplier or system admin.

To skip this file press ESC (Which is what I DON’T do)

CAUTION!! If you skip this file, setup may not complete and windows xp
may not work properly

To quit setup press F3

I always retry to copy the file, which it apears to do and copies the
remaining files.. I then get this red writting informaing me that this
part of the installation was completed successfully

I get the above message several times during this part of the install
process.. interesting thing is though is that the install proccess is
not consistant in telling me what file(s) couldn't be copied correctly
for each time i try to install (i e it is totaly random)

Part 2 install where it configures your hardware and installs drivers
and neccessary files to complete windows xp installation

2nd Stage Install- when it installs the hardware drivers and necessary
files to complete windows xp installation

Ist window Fatal error

Error has occurred that prevents setup from continuing

One of the component that windows neede3d to continue setup
couldn’t be installed

A components file doesn’t match the file verification
information present in the component manifest

Press OK for setup log file

Setup log file

Error- Sxs.DLL syntax error in manifest or policy file
“G:\i386\asms\1000\msft\windows\gdiplus.man” on line 4

Error installation failed G:\i386\asms Error message A components
file doesn’t match the file verification information present in
the component manifest

Fatal error- one of the components that windows needed to continue
setup could not be installed

A components file doesn’t match the file verification present in
the component manifest

I hate to state the obvious, but this indicates thast I cannot
complete windows installation

And again without stating the obvious, is there anyway round this, or
can someone lend me a working copy of windows xp that installs
properly

I need to install windows xp urgently, as I need to get at some files
that were originally created using windows xp that on windows me has a
problem with loading or dealing with

please email me at (e-mail address removed)

thanks

(major snippage)

Usually when there are problems installing MS operating systems, it is
because 1) the RAM is faulty; 2) the hard drive is faulty; 3)
installation media is faulty. So 1) do a RAM test with a tool like
Memtest86; 2) usually drive diagnostic utilities are available for free
download from the mftr.; 3) contact Microsoft if you need to get your
legitimate copy of XP replaced (I believe you'll need to provide some
sort of proof of purchase).

HTH,

Malke
