Windows XP / HP Photosmart 1215

Can anyone help me figure out why I can't install the HP
Photosmart 1215 on my friend's computer? They have
Windows XP which was not originally compatible w/the
printer so I downloaded the new drivers/software for XP
from the hp sight and tried to install it. During the
installation, it won't recognize the printer even though
cables are all connected and the printer is on. I tried
several times making sure that the cables were connected
properly, but it still doesn't recognize the printer.

Generally, you need to install the software _before_ connecting the
printer. So start over by following the directions from MS-MVP Cari at
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm (explains how to
delete all traces of the old install before doing the new install).
Make sure that you do NOT connect the printer until you are prompted to
do so by the software.
