Windows XP home

I have two computers with XP home installed on both, hooked up to a router.
#1 computer will not open two windows at the same time. It will not let me
minimise one window and open another one. My #2 computer will let me open two
or more windows at the same time. Is there a setting somewhere that will set
my #1 computer to open more than one window at the same time? Thanks

Open a window. From the menu at the top of the windows select Tools->Folder
options. From the General tab select "Open each folder in it's own window."
Click Apply button and OK button.

I don't have this option under the tab. I have set home page, delete
cookies,delete files and delete history.

Not in Outlook Express.

Try Start, Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, General tab

Then as Xandros offered, "Open each folder in it's own window."

Thanks Don, I checked the folder setting and it was already checked to open
in its own window. Is there other settings somewhere?

You have opened and Internet Explorer window. I was referring to an explorer
window. As you know an Internet Explorer window is a window that opens when
you are online and surfing the internet. An explorer window is the window
that opens when you open a folder on your computer.

Here is another way to get to the place I referred to in my earlier post:
Click on the Start button and select Settings. Then select Folder Options.
The first window that opens from there will have the General Tab. Select
"Open each folder in it's own window."

Thats the one that is already checked. As you can see I am not very smart
when it comes to computers. Maybe if I tell you what i am trying to do it
will help. Say that I have got Yahoo open, and want to open Hotmail at the
same time. when I minimize Yahoo and try to open Hotmail it will reopen
Yahoo, close it and then open Hotmail. It does this on all enternet explorer
windows.

After you minimize Yahoo (which by the way is not necessary) open up another
Internet Explorer window and navigate to Hotmail. If you clicking on a
shortcut on your desktop to Hotmail then the Yahoo page would be replaced by
Hotmail, at least that's how it works on my machine.

Jerry, I have 2 computers working thru a router with windows xp home on both.
One will let me minimize Yahoo and open Hotmail and the other one want. I can
open 5 or 6 windows on the one that will. There has to be a setting somewhere
to activate this feature. Thanks OLD MAN, going crazy.

Ok. I understand now. From your first post I was thinking your problem was
with Explorer. By default when Windows is installed folders will close as
new ones are opened and you have to actually switch the setting in Folder
options so you can have multiple folder windows open. But I see that you are
referring to Internet Explorer.

Try this:
Click the Start button and go to Settings->Control Panel->Internet options.
Select the Advanced Tab
Under the Browser section remove the check mark from "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts.
Click the Apply button and OK out of there.
Close Internet Explorer and restart it again.
See if that works for you.
