File needed The file c_20127.nls on Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

This issue occurs because of the way in which the non-destructive System Recovery operation restores the Windows XP files and the way in which the Microsoft catalog database interacts with a non-destructive recovery. This results in mismatched Windows System files.

Follow these steps to resolve this issue

If the system is on, turn the system off by pressing the power button and holding it in for at least five seconds.

Press the power button to turn on the computer, then, at the first startup screen, press the F10 key to enter System Recovery.

Click the Advanced button.

While holding down the Alt key, press the D key.

A command prompt window appears.

At the command prompt, type the following:

rd /s d:\windows\system32\catroot2\

Press the Enter key, then press the Y key to confirm that you want to delete the directory.

Type exit to close the command prompt window.

Click Shutdown to shutdown the computer.

The system should now start correctly.
