Windows XP Home Upgrade Install on new drive

I'm preparing to upgrade from Win98se to XP Home. I plan
to use the Upgrade edition with a clean install. Also at
this time I would like to replace my c: system drive with
a new drive.

If I do this, will the XP install still work? Will it
check for a valid OS on the hard drive, not find it, and
abort? Or, does it check for OS validation by prompting
the user for the original CD?

It will ask for the qualifying OS CD (such as retail
Win98/ME/2000).
