Windows XP home, that will not start or even reinstall

I am stuck with a Windows XP home that will not start or even reinstall.

Booting “normally†or in safe mode results in the stop message 0x24
(NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM) early in loading process of XP.

Trying to reinstall or repair, with the Windows Install CD (Fujitsu Siemens
Amilo) results in the same error message, before anything can be done.

Downloading the 6 booth disks for XP home (from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=099121E9-FCAA-4039-818D-2BE8AD09C05E)
results in the message stop 0xED (unbootable_boot_volume or
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME).

With a dos boot disk from http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm I am able to se
my NTFS files, and all looks well.

Is my only option to unscrew the hard drive. Put it into another PC, as an
slave, and format it?. I had hoped for a software solution, to at least be
able to reinstall windows. Preferably a solution to fix the probably small
data fault on the hard drive with chkdsk as suggested in the stop 0x24
message.

Any suggestions?

If you don't have another computer, get another new hard drive.
Disconnect your old drive. Physically install the new blank drive and
then fresh install XP on that drive. Then hook your old HD up as a
slave, and see if you can read the data. You should be able to.

Are you able to run Recovery Console using the Windows CD?
ie At the "Welcome to Setup" screen press 'R' for the Recovery Console
Then run chkdsk /r

No. I have two different versjons of the OEM Windows CD from Fujitus Siemens.
The first goes to 0x24 blue screen, before it has asked any questions, the
second as you to select recovery or install. In both cases it responds with
the 0x24 blue screen.

Knowledge Base-artikkel - 315403 says "If this fix has not been included in
the OEM build of Windows XP, you may not be able to enter Recovery Console
and run the chkdsk /r command for recovery". What to do then?
