Windows XP Home Reboot Cycle

I am using Windows XP Home. When I turn my system on the start up cycle gets
to the desk top, cranks for a few seconds, switches to a blue screen and then
turns off and restarts automatically. This process continues in a loop. If I
go to
task manager (ctrl/alt/del) as soon as the desk top appears I can get it to
get through with a Window Error report being sent. I have tried virus scans,
updating service packs, restore and last good configuration. Nothing works.
Any thoughts? Thanks,
