my computer got a corrupt c:\windows\system32\config file...After formatting
the hard drive (re-installing the drivers)...I now see the hard drive when
booting up...However, when I try to install windows I get an error (does NOT
see a hard drive)...Anybody any suggestions??? Thanks-Mark

It sounds like your system is trying to read from the hard drive on boot, rather than the
Windows XP CD which is self-booting. Have you tried going into System Setup (BIOS) and
making the CD drive the first drive in the boot sequence? How: Power on your system, and
usually the maker's logo is on the first screen, and somewhere on that screen it says
which key to press to enter Setup (BIOS). Press that key, and when the BIOS loads look
for Boot Sequence (or something similar) and move the CD ROM drive to the first position
in the boot sequence, then save settings and exit. Then boot with the Windows XP CD. If
you can't find the key to press to enter System Setup (BIOS) consult the documentation for
your system. If you don't have documentation, try the F1, or DEL, or F2, or ESC keys. If
none of those work post the maker's name, and someone in this group will probably know the
key to press to enter the BIOS for your system.

Not enough information to help you.
How did you format, how are you attempting the reinstall? What is the exact
error message.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
