Windows XP home, Quick Basic V4.5 and port(s) access

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 running Windows XP home SP2 that has two USB
2.0 ports and no built in serial (RS232) or parallel (IEEE 1284) ports. I
have a Radio Shack model 26-183 USB to RS232 serial adapter cable and a
LPT-PCM PCMCIA CardBus to parallel IEEE 1284 that supports SPP/ECP/EPP modes.
I am running Quick Basic V4.5 in conjunction with TameDos on Windows XP.
Will Quick Basic V4.5 allow me to access these two adapters from inside a
..BAS program while in the Windows XP environment? If not, can I do this
using Visual Basic Express 2005, which I have yet to learn? Also, is it
possible to access the USB ports in Quick Basic and / or Visual Basic Express?

The PCMCIA > Parallel will work the USB > Serial probably
won't (especially if you are trying to hook to a device that
needs to speak to the port directly).
