windows XP Home - Primary Slave Fail

I'm running XP Home SP1. In the last week or so I have been experiencing
severe hardware problems. Basically my machine will freeze and then I get the
message 'Primary Slave Fail'

Any ideas please?

Make a backup of anything you value on that drive as it's not long for
this world.
