Windows XP Home logon screen

I am just setting up my new computer, thus I am trying to update it with all
the latest updates.

I am new to Windows XP. Windows is getting so complex.

Anyway, when first setup, my computer would go to the user logon screen when
booting up. It only displayed me as a user. I had to select my self and the
computer continued to load my settings. It contimued to do the same after I
installed Windows XP Home SP2. However, on the same day I installed the
following critical updates:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Successful Thursday, October 14,
2004 Windows Update website;

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3, English Version Successful
Thursday, October 14, 2004 Windows Update website; and

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack
2 (KB834707) Successful Thursday, October 14, 2004 Automatic Updates;

the computer started bypassing the user logon screen and boots all the way up.

My question is: did one of the updates change something that caused this, or
should I be concerned that a spyware, adware or virus program caused this?

I viewed other relative questions on this forum and checked 'control
userpasswords2' settings and they were not set to bypass the logon screen as
discribed. I also checked the [HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\Winlogon. The 'DefaultUserName' is me, the 'DefaultPassword' is blank (as
I did not set one up), and the 'AutoAdminLogon' entry is not present.

I am Okay with the screen being bypassed (I think). I am just worried as to
what caused this change.

Any help would be appricated.

Thanks,

This is because there is no other user account on the computer and password
is not applied or auto log on is disabled.

1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
3. In the dialog box that appears, click to select the "Users must enter a
user name and password to use this computer"
check box, and then click OK.

To work around this behavior, log off from the Autologon account, and then
log on by using the new account.

..NET framework adds an extra user account for its own use. This used to
result in that account appearing mysteriously on Welcome; it looks as if
in the recent revision they have taken note of that and perhaps gone
overboard the other way . If you only have one User, and that user has
no password, you *ought* to get it just say Welcome with no icon, and
carry on; if you have a password then it should wait for you to click
your icon and then give it
